Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer – RTO

A Treatment System for the Solvent Vapors Emitted into the Air

During the tinplate lacquer  coating process, vapor of solvents (solvent vapors)  – the materials used to dilute the varnish – are emitted through the chimneys of the heating units. These solvents are volatile organic compounds. This vapor causes strong odor and environmental pollution.
Lageen Food Packaging has been operating the RTO system since 2009. The system allows to burn the vapor at very high temperatures – approximately 850C – using minimal levels of energy.

The principle on which the system is based is highly efficient heat retention and using the varnish vapor itself as a burning material (fuel)  in order to conserve energy and to mitigate the high cost of keeping the system in operation. At this high temperature, the solvents break down to carbon dioxide (CO2) and water vapor with no risk of hazardous byproducts.
This system is the best technology available today for the treatment of the volatile organic compounds emitted in industries such as Lageen Food Packaging.
When the system was purchased, possible future expansion of activity had been taken into consideration, and additional lines can be connected to it
.

The air emitted from the RTO chimney adheres to the most stringent standards, such as the German standard TA-Luft, on which the Israeli Clean Air Law is based [the Clean Air Law, 2008 – taking effect as of January 2011]. We can proudly say that

this is the most advanced system in Israel for the treatment of air emitted in industries similar to that of Lageen Food Packaging.
Recycling

Lageen Food Packaging aspires to protect the environment, for the benefit of the environment, the community and the workers. For that purpose, we make efforts to minimize the amounts of waste sent to the certified waste disposal sites.

Boxes of tinplate  waste and raw material, along with iron and steel waste, produced during production processes are collected and sold, through a contractor, to metal factories for melting.
The wooden platforms pallets on which the tin packages are transported imported  from abroad, as well as rejected wooden platforms pallets, are collected by a contractor and can be used to produce crates.
The paper and cardboard waste is collected by the recycling company Amnir.
Plastic wrap waste is collected and sent to plastic factories for recycling.
Copper wire – used to facilitate the welding of the can body – waste is returned to the copper manufacturer from which we purchase the copper wires in exchange for purchase price reduction.
Burnt motorUsed lubricating oil and used cooking oil are collected to in dedicated containers and sold to a company that recycles oils.
Electronic waste and computer equipment waste are collected to in a dedicated container and sent to a company that disassembles the equipment and returns the usable components to the electronic equipment industry.
Hazardous material waste, mainly varnish and diluents  residues, empty barrels of hazardous materials and batteries, are collected and transported by certified companies to the main hazardous material disposal site at Ramat Hovav.
Empty barrels of substances that are not hazardous material are sold to a company that cleans them and returns them for reuse.

Please note – our products, the cans sold to the customers' filling facilities, are also fully recyclable after use, provided the waste disposal site has the appropriate equipment.
